Scientific-Research Center of TESOL

It is a center of methodological research in Kazakhstan.
It is one of the departments of the Kazakh State University of International Relations and World Languages, named after Abylai Khan.
The main purpose of the center is to research modern trends in the theory and practice of foreign-language teaching. The center also deals with researching methodological problems of teaching Kazakh as a second language.
At the moment, we are working on the following:
1. Developing the communicative approach to teaching in different types of educational institutions (e.g. secondary school, non-linguistic and linguistic universities)
2. Researching, testing, and introducing innovative methods and skills into the practice of teaching foreign languages.
3. Developing modern theories of foreign language textbook design.
To accomplish the tasks mentioned above, we are carrying out MA and PhD research and creating up-to-date materials to use in foreign language classes: books, lesson plans, syllabi, curricula, and methodological audio and video materials.

To master your teaching skills, we can offer:
•  Short-term methodological seminars (no less than 10 hours), after which you will receive a certificate confirming your completion of the course.
Short-term methodological practice (from 2 weeks to 3 months), after which you will receive a certificate.
•  Master-class for first-year teachers, which includes methodological training, the aim of which is to teach you the modern principles and methods of teaching foreign languages.
•  Courses in English and the methodology of teaching English for teachers of German and French (no less than 10 months), after which you will receive a certificate.
If you are interested in doing scholarly research, you can:
•  Participate in a scholarly program that prepares you to enter an MA program (which teaches you how to: choose a research topic; pass entering exams; write a thesis; write an article).
•  Enter a master’s program (2 years) and receive the qualification “University Teacher in the Methodology of Language Teaching, and Researcher”
