The Translation Faculty comprises four Chairs, including the Chair of Speech Practice of the English language, the Chair of Theory and Speech Practice of the English language, the Chair of Translation Theory and Practice and the Chair of Roman and Germanic Languages and Translation as well as the postgraduate department.

Every five years the Translation Faculty passes the State attestation held by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. According to the results of the most recent State attestation, the Faculty has improved its system of quality assessment by adding a computerized approach to assessing knowledge. The Faculty has changed the profile of the students’ independent study making it more creative and career-oriented.

The Programme provides the students with up-to-date education in translation theory and practice and prepares for ongoing research.

On completion of the Programme, graduates will:

· approach translation problems on the basis of sound theoretical knowledge and translation competence.

· have acquired awareness of translation as a process of intercultural communication.

· apply the theoretical concepts and approaches to justification and elaboration of arguments, research methods and translation modeling.

· have well developed intellectual qualities of reasoning, analysis, creativity and research skills.

· have competence in the use of information technology in translation.

· work independently, enhance the interpersonal skills and be ready for the real-life professional environment.

The Translation Faculty was founded in 1998. Currently there are 453 students at the faculty, 369 of whom pay tuition fees and 81 of whom receive governmental scholarships.

Speciality: 051500- Documentation and documentary maintenance of management. Document makers’ activity is directed on working out, introduction and maintenance of functioning uniform to the organizations of technological process of documenting and job with documents and document information in the field of the international relations. Document maker carries out the control over office-work in the organization, develops the unified forms of documents, documentation systems; takes measures on streamlining of structure of documents and information indicators, reduction of their quantity and optimization of the organizations’ document flows.

Document maker is prepared for professional job in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in consular service, in personnel management; the labour right, in documentary maintenance of personnel service; the organizations of protection of the confidential information, in the state bodies, akimats, in state, firms, the enterprises in services of documentary maintenance of management on the posts demanding higher education, including the head of service of office-work, the office-manager and the press-secretary of the head of the organization.

Document maker should have knowledge, practical experience and own methods of the analysis, designing and the organization of documentary service of establishment (or structural division) any level of management, any branch and any pattern of ownership, including documents which regulate the international relations.
