The Department of Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching was formed in 1968. Nevertheless of changing name the best traditions of the first teachers have been kept. There were such great teachers and scientists as Popova V., Zalevskaya A., Kovalchuk B., Braylovskaya V., Pistar A., Hrizamenova S., Zaltcman R., Basenko G., Rozengauz M., Chechita V., Kunanbayeva S., Dgolomanova B., Akhmetova M., Akanaeva S., Iskakova Zh., Abdukarimova K., Tursunbaeva Zh. Hangurova L. and others.

In the year 2004 the department got the name of prof. P. Kozlov (candidate of pedagogical sciences), who was one of the first departmentman and dean of the faculty. P. Kozlov was a good methodologist of the Republic of Kazakhstan and excellent teacher.

The present departmentperson is prof. T. Kusnetcova (candidate of psychological sciences).

There are 34 teachers of three languages: English, German and French on the department, among them 11 professors, 3 associate professors, and 10 senior teachers.

Teachers work both with undergraduate and postgraduate students. In 2010 year the teacher of the Department of FLT Methodology Almetova A.S. gained a rank of “The Teacher of the Year”.

There is a reading club “Bloomsbury group” at the department for juniors and senior students. The club was open in 2004 in the frame of British Council project. The leaders are T. Brekalova and A. Darkembaeva.

The department scientific interests lies in two directions: 1) theoretical basis of FL teaching at schools and universities; 2) Improvement of content and methods of teaching at schools and universities, including.

The following modules are taught Contemporary FLT; The History of FLT methodology, Modern methods and technologies of FLT, Methodology of professionally oriented FLT conducted in 3 profiles – humanitarian, economic, natural-mathematic (scientific), Practice in educational cases according to these (mentioned above) profiles, Methodology of FLT to Young learners.

The department of Methodology also responsible for the management of continuous pedagogical practice for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th course students.
