One of the four departments of Pedagogical Faculty of Foreign Languages is a Department of Lexicology of foreign languages.
Department of English lexicology, as a separate department, is operating since 1967. The first head of the department was Professor Kurmanbaev N.M., who laid down the teaching and methodological foundations of the department. Under the leadership of N.M. Kurmanbaev the department included such experienced teachers as Novak T.P., Ignatieva N.P., Filina K.V., Kovler T.D. and many others who generously handed over their experience and knowledge to succeeding generations.
In 2007 the Department of English lexicology was renamed into the Department of lexicology of foreign languages. Leading department disciplines are English, French, German as basic languages at level B2 according to international standards of learning foreign languages, French as a second language, English lexicology, French lexicology, German lexicology, Language and culture studies (English / French / German), Standards of speech and behaviour of a teacher ( English). Teaching staff of the department of lexicology of foreign languages is composed of 20 teachers of English, German and French, trained in prestigious universities abroad, including such as the University of Arizona (USA), University of Rennes, Pierre Mendes, Sorbonne (France ), Goethe Institute, University of Karl Marx, University of Goettingen (Germany), Lyutsen University (Switzerland), University of Graz (Austria), University of Genoa (Italy), Technical University of Bratislava (Slovakia).
The educational process in all subjects is built on the basis of state standard. Following the concept of education focused on the formation of the individual student, the development of his intellectual and creative activity, the teaching staff of the Department of lexicology of foreign languages is working to improve the quality of teaching, engaging in the learning process novelty and diversity of works that contribute to the development of cognitive activity, cognitive and communicative abilities of students. Realization of this goal is being done by updating the content of educational material on the principle: the material must be authentic, informative and interesting.
Staff of the Department of Lexicology of Foreign Languages supports and develops friendly, healthy, working environment, helping each other to build and improve pedagogical skills. Interest in the work and constant striving for professional growth is based on mutual enrichment: not only young teachers learn from experienced, but also teachers with considerable experience of teaching learn many interesting things on the lessons of young colleagues. The use of gaming technology in the classroom (situational and verbal games, discussions in the form of round tables, press conferences, «talk-shows» «Toasmasters»), various projects (role-playing projects, information projects) has become a usual practice for the teachers.
Team teaching is practiced by the teachers Tutbaeva Zh.A., Mustafina A.S., Sharshankulova P.B., Karatay A.M. They conducted classes for the 2 year students on topics “Reading for Travelling, Culture, Music, Generation Gap and others”.
With the aim of collecting and putting into practice the modern teaching experience, teaching staff regularly presents demonstration lessons, visits the methodological and linguistic seminars conducted by foreign experts, attends workshops on TOEFL, IELTS and gets certificates.
The psychological situation in the classroom is very favorable, students feel free, untrammeled, and not afraid to speak. Students and teachers get great satisfaction from the work on the lessons, which often are made by students in the form of various visual aids, projects, in the form of letters to their teachers.
The chair has video recordings, slides of demonstration lessons and activities undertaken by the department.
A team of authors including Candidate of Philology, Professor Bulatova S.M., Associate professor Tutbaeva Zh.A. compiled a book for reading for the 2nd year students, a collection of stories by contemporary British and American writers. The book suggests a variety of modern methods of work in class, causing high motivation among students and contributing to effective learning, developing critical thinking, reading, speaking and writing skills. Teachers of the department Bulatova S.M., Tutbaeva Zh.A. conducted seminars for university teachers through the "Summer University", a master class for teachers of high schools of the republic, (Bulatova S.M.), Tutbaeva Zh.A. - a master class for school teachers on new textbooks, besides teaching staff holds methodological seminars for the faculty teachers as well as University teachers. These workshops reflect the innovative approach to teaching foreign languages.
Bulatova Svetlana Madievna - Head of the Department of Lexicology of Foreign Languages, Candidate of Philology, professor of KazUIR & WL named after Abylai Khan, graduated from the Almaty Institute of Foreign Languages, two -year Advanced teacher training courses at Almaty Institute of Foreign Languages, received a candidate’s diploma and teaches Lexicology of modern English language for the 3 and 4th year students and post graduates. Bulatova S.M. is the author of numerous scientific articles, co-authored a number of textbooks in English for the 2nd year students, the Kazakh-English dictionary, published in Kensington, Maryland, USA, e-textbook «Modern English Lexicology », « Effective Reading » for the 2nd year students, a textbook « Basic English » of level B2 (by international standards), complete with keys to the textbook, listening texts and CD recorded by native English speaker. Bulatova S.M. worked in Linguistic Centre at Kensington, United States in 1993 as a visiting consultant; she also worked in the University of Arizona in Tucson, USA in 1994. Bulatova S.M. presents reports at scientific and methodological conferences.
Abdigalieva Baktybala Baymyrzaevna – Candidate of Science, Associate professor, has a number of publications, teaches Lexicology of German language, Intercultural communication, supervises projects and diploma papers of 3 and 4th year students.
Nurshataeva Aizat Bahtybekovna – Candidate of Science, has a number of publications on the theme of dissertation, successfully defended her thesis. At the present time is on maternity leave.
Sadykova Gulbaram Karashevna – Associate Professor of KazUIR & WL, works at the faculty since 1973, after graduating the Almaty Institute of Foreign Languages with honors. From 1976 to 1978 she studied at the Advanced teacher training courses at Leningrad State University named after A.A. Zhdanov. Sadykova G.K. is one of the authors of «Marianne» series of textbooks and additional materials for the pupils of 5, 8 and 10 grades of secondary schools. In order to create teaching aids and textbooks, she took part in three-month courses at the International scientific-educational centre in Sevres in France. In collaboration Sadykova G.K. published a textbook for students of 2 course in French language, and released French-Kazakh Dictionary (also co-authored) in Almaty, 2005.
Tenizbaeva Nazymhan Mankeevna – Senior Teacher of KazUIR & WL, after studying in KazUIR & WL in 1979-1983, continued her studies on international students exchange in the Humboldt University in Berlin (Germany) at the Department of Germanic specialty. Tenizbaeva N.M. teaches German at the 2 courses, geography and linguistics in German. In order to improve her teaching skills she was on the 2-month internship in Munich in 1997, annually attended seminars in the Goethe Institut, and visited the Republican Congress of the teachers in this institute by the invitation of foreign lecturers.
Tutbaeva Zhannat Abdykaimovna - associate professor of KazUIR & WL, chairman of UMC on faculty, conducts classes at 2 courses on basic English language, lectures and seminars on English lexicology, culture of language and teachers behavior (in English) for 2 courses, consults the degree works of IV course students, co-author of the textbook «Basic English» level B2, Effective Reading for II course and English language textbooks for schools. As a member of an international project to monitor the quality of education, Tutbaeva Zh. A visited a number of seminars in Grenoble, France in 2007
Omarkulova Bibigul Auezkalievna – MA, Senior Lecturer, was on probation at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, successfully conducts English classes, lectures and seminars on countrystudies (in English), is responsible for education of students in hostel.
Mustafina Aliya Seydahanovna - one of the experienced teachers of the department, completed her graduate studies, has a number of publications on the topic of her dissertation, made reports on the scientific and practical conferences, preparing to defend doctoral dissertations.
Musaeva Shyryn Kadyrbekovna– post-graduate diploma, has a number of publications on the topic of her dissertation, made reports at scientific conferences, preparing to defend dissertation, participated in an international project to monitor the quality of teaching of foreign languages, traveled to the Slovak Technical University, Bratislava (2008), the University of Genoa (Italy, 2007).
Teachers of the department Bakhtiar Illar, finished the master's degree in KazUIR & WL and are preparing to defend Master's thesis; Sharshankulova P.B, Ametova G.B, Esbolganova A.I studies in master school in KazUIR & WL, Karatay A.M preparing for the Masters. Those who complete the study in Master school in the future plan to continue their studies in doctoral programs. Experienced teachers of the department Mahanbetova B.Sh., Alpeisova B.T after a short break, continued to work at the department, conduct classes in English for 2 course. (Alimov R.T was on probation in Nice, France, at the center of Azur Lingua) Teachers Alimova R.T, Zalieva G.K teach the French language (both primary and secondary).
The educational process in all disciplines is accomplished by the department according to the model program.
