The development strategy of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, 2010-2011.

The mission of the Faculty of Oriental Studies determined by the strategic direction of development of national education system and involve the preparation of professional, mobile specialists in the sphere of mobile variant of foreign language education.

The purpose is specified the following objectives for the future professionals with the knowledge of two foreign languages: English and Oriental (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Arabic , Turkish, Persian, Urdu, Hindi), two Oriental Languages (Basic foreign language and Modern foreign language):

• philologists
• interpreters
• orientalists
• regionolists
• culturologists

The training of specialists at the Faculty of Oriental Studies includes the following educational priorities:

• the targeted scientific and theoretical knowledges, determining the specific organization of the educational process, in accordance with each of the chosen specialization;
• the ability of designing of learning content for established purpose;
• the ability of use of modern innovative technologies, adequate to variational educational models;
• the mastery of new methods of monitoring and evaluation , relevant to each educational model;
• the specific character of professional and pedagogical practices.

One of the first major problems during the transition to the Bologna educational system is the need to modernize educational process , its gradual innovative development, both in form and content. To do this we need:

• update training courses;
• development of new domains in the professional sphere in
• World of integrated Area Studies, Foreign Area Studies,
• Oriental Political Science, Oriental International Political Economy and International Relations Theory; Oriental philosophy,
• Theoretical and Applied Cultural Studies;
• modification of the educational model in relation to the demands of today and tomorrow and improve the quality of education;
• research experience in the development and introduction of credit-modular master's degree programs in the Faculty;
• Recycling of existing Oriental curriculum;

In order to improve competitiveness of oriental education and of creation of preconditions for the implementation of joint educational programs, it is necessary to transform the existing structure of the curriculum in account of international requirements, as far as possible while retaining the richness of content. This task requires a preliminary study of the best national and international experience, a comprehensive assessment, the degree of applicability, the world's recommendations to the Kazakhstan environment and development of fundamentally new concept of modular organization of the educational process.

Action emerged from the study of proposals for the introduction of credit-modular system in the educational process of the Eastern Department should bring the following practical results:

• will improve the flexibility in the educational program by increasing the number of possible individual educational trajectories;
• will allow to introduce a more stringent system of quality of education;
• will create prerequisites for the realization of joint educational programs with foreign universities, providing for delivery of international or convertible certificate for individual Listened modules.

Scholarly activities of faculty should be aimed at improving the quality of the subject-information of content of training courses. That require an increased scientific and methodological orientation of departments and scientific seminars. Expansion of the national scientific and educational space in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), the international level as a whole is a task that must be formulated and extensively advanced.

The priority in the sphere of educational work in the Faculty of Oriental Studies is:

• the promotion of a healthy lifestyle;
• the searching for creative approaches to promote social participation of students;
• the exposure of the creative potential of young people;
• the instilling of the values of corporate culture, leadership and professional-oriented qualities;
• the upbringing of spiritually - moral values, civic engagement;
• the building of skills to work in a team “Teacher – Student”, that are directed on the tasks within the strategic vision of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, “Staff - Corporate family”;
• the fostering of the skills of research, participation in scientific conferences , projects, competitions in the professional sphere, active participation in public life of the University.

Under the arrangements for the educational work of installing the main target is to develop young people's patriotism, love for a country, promoting the state symbols of Kazakhstan, the knowledge of state language, culture, traditions and customs of the peoples of Kazakhstan and countries of the eastern region, the love for ALMA-MATER.

The objectives of the international cooperation of the faculty directly related to the objectives of the University in international relations development in the sphere of education, aimed at promoting and implementing the state's foreign economic policy, aimed at socio-economic development of Kazakhstan. In the implementation of the purposes there should be developed program to improve international cooperation of the faculty, where specifies the vision, purposes, directions and activities in this direction, as well as a clear understanding of the results. The important thing is understanding of the need to develop and implement of innovative educational models, which in the modern international educational process are formed in terms of the expanding and deepening cooperation between the subjects of education.

The plan of the main activities for the 2010-2011 school year

1. Organization of teaching and educational process (in all areas of the faculty).
2. The improving of teaching process in the Faculty:
• the development and implement of an expert in areas of training,
• the development of training plans for re-introducing specialisms (Cultural Studies, Oriental Studies),
• the Improving of the methodological approaches to SES for all study courses of the faculty,
• the training Master's educational programs on oriental direction.
3. The improving of the scientific and methodical work in the Faculty:
• the development of master programs with a degree of “Cultural Studies”;
• the efficient organization of the UMC faculty chairs;
• the organization of seminars about the improving of teaching specialization courses,
• the development of curriculum with a degree of “Oriental studies”, in order to introduct new areas of specialization;
• to establish a clear periodicity of the publication Bulletin of The University of International Relations and World Languages of the series “Orientalism”, the filling of materials of which must be consistent with its direction.
• to prepare for the Protection of the 1 doctorwork and the 2 Ph.D. theses, to intensify research work of teachers and students of the faculty.
4. Educational work at the Department maintained in accordance with the approved plan of major activities with students. The main positions:
• the holding of presentations of the faculty in university activities “The Dedication to Students”;
• the holding of charity events;
• the organization of work of the curators of groups;
• the organization of the festival “Stars of the East”;
• the competition for the title of “The Best Training Group”;
• the activities on patriotic theme;
• the competition of students' projects ;
• the meetings in the club “Visiting Students” ;
• the implementation of Career Guidance;
• the Job of the Faculty of the Club of Funny and Resourceful People;
• the job of the «English club».
5. International relations:

   • the searching and expansion of new partnerships with universities of China, Korea, Arab countries, Turkey and Iran
